Hain Daniels – the UK subsidiary of US-based food group Hain Celestial – has agreed to buy premium soup maker Yorkshire Provender for an undisclosed fee.

The acquisition by Hain Daniels was subject to Competition and Markets Authority approval. The deal was revealed this week (February 16).

The deal would help Yorkshire Provender find new customers, the soup manufacturer said.

Yorkshire Provender co-founder Belinda Williams said: “This is a significant milestone for Yorkshire Provender and we look forward to working with the Hain Daniels team to continue our growth in new and existing customers.”

‘Driving growth’

The acquisition would benefit both manufacturers by driving growth, Hain Daniels said.

The subsidiary’s ceo James Skidmore said: “We are excited to work together with the Yorkshire Provender team and leverage our combined infrastructures to drive future growth.

“This transaction expands the depth of our soup offering with Yorkshire Provender’s gluten-free, delicious premium recipes and flavours.”

Hain Celestial – owner of the Sun-Pat, Hartley’s and Ella’s Kitchen brands – has sites in the US, UK, Canada, Belgium, France, Germany and Austria. It said the deal would complement its own existing soup brands.

‘The next chapter’

“We welcome Belinda and Terry Williams, co-founders of Yorkshire Provender, to the Hain Celestial family, and look forward to working with the Yorkshire Provender team in leading the next chapter of the brand’s development,” said Hain Celestial president and ceo Irwin Simon.

“Yorkshire Provender has a premium brand positioning that complements our New Covent Garden Soup Co. and Cully & Sully brands in the UK.”

Yorkshire Provender offered 14 premium soup flavours, including: Cauliflower cheese, Moroccan vegetable tagine and super broccoli. The manufacturer, based in Allerton, North Yorkshire, recorded sales of about £6M over the 2016 calendar year, Hain Celestial said.
