Iced and blended beverage sales in coffee shops grew by almost a fifth in 2016, helped by consumer demand for healthy indulgence, a report has found.

The 18% annual value increase outperformed the 12% growth in the overall coffee shop sector, The Iced Beverages 2017​ report from Allegra found.

With an estimated market turnover of £338M, growth in iced beverages is set to continue through 2017, it said.

Fruit juice ‘health halo’

Meanwhile, 100% fruit juice continues to maintain its ‘health halo’ among young consumers, despite the bad press the fruit juice sector has received in recent years, according to a survey conducted for Welch’s Global Ingredients Group.

When asked to rank a selection of beverages in order of healthiness, 300 fruit juice drinkers aged 18–35 ranked sparkling water, 100% fruit juice and milk as the top three.
