Dakin’s recipe was a secret blend of eight exotic botanicals chosen from across the world, which has been handed down from distiller to distiller and can be traced to Bombay’s new Laverstoke distillery in Hampshire.
The brand Bombay Sapphire wasn’t created until much later when Michel Roux, the marketer responsible for Absolut Vodka, wanted to instil a little luxury in the brand. As a result, he named it after the famous 182 carat sapphire the ‘Star of Bombay’.
