Artisan bakery Bertinet, in partnership with Warburtons, is to open a second bakery at its Milton Keynes site to serve the south east of England.

The new bakery – due to boost production of artisan bread – will begin production this autumn.

Bertinet Bakery also operated a production bakery in Bath  –  serving its two shops in the city, local restaurants, cafes and Waitrose stores.

Warburtons md Neil Campbell said the investment reflected growing consumer interest in home and artisanal baking. “Warburtons is keen to gain a better understanding of this sector, as we continue to develop a range of products that reflects what our customers want and love,” said Campbell.

‘Leading artisan bakeries’

“The Bertinet Bakery is respected as one of the leading artisan bakeries in the country, and we are delighted to work with a company that shares the same passion for bread and focus on quality as Warburtons.”

Founder of the The Bertinet Bakery Richard Bertinet said the investment would help the firm answer the problem of how to deliver more bread to more people in more places without compromising quality.

“In Warburtons we have found another family business with the same attention to detail and commitment to excellence within their sector of the market,” said Bertinet. “Having developed its logistics network over the course of 100 years, Warburtons is ideally placed to help our business on the next stage of our journey, and we look forward to working with them in the future.”
