Fox’s Biscuits, part of the 2 Sisters Food Group, is replacing the refrigeration equipment at its Uttoxeter manufacturing facility, with the help of Lorien Engineering. The work is necessary to meet new legislation on refrigerant use, which comes into force on January 1 2015.

Project management specialist Lorien Engineering is on site at Fox’s Biscuits’ factory, where it is replacing existing R22-based refrigeration systems with more environmentally friendly propylene glycol-based units.

New legislation

Under the new legislation on the use of refrigerants, it will be illegal to maintain or repair air conditioning systems that use R22 refrigerant. R22 has been found to have a detrimental effect on the earth's ozone layer.

The project is being phased to minimise disruption to production at the bakery and is scheduled to complete this month [October].
