Premier Foods has appointed the senior easyJet executive Keith Hamill as its new non-executive chairman.

Hamill will join the Premier Foods board on October 1, as non-executive chairman designate, before formally beginning his role from November 9. The incoming non-executive chairman will take over from David Beever, who was stepping down to reduce his work commitments, Premier Foods said.

Hamill said: “I am very pleased to be joining Premier Foods as chairman of the board, and look forward to working with the team to deliver value from its great portfolio of brands.”

Strategic objectives

Premier Foods would reach its strategic objectives with Hamill’s consumer-facing experience, the manufacturer said.

Senior independent non-executive director of Premier Foods Ian Kreiger said: “We are delighted to welcome Keith Hamill OBE, as chairman of the board, and look forward to working with him to deliver long-term value for shareholders.

“Keith’s background in consumer-facing businesses in addition to his breadth of experience as a chairman and non‐executive director will be invaluable as we continue to focus on our strategic objectives.”

Kreiger thanked Beever for his commitment and significant contribution to Premier Foods over the past nine years. Beever had worked at Premier Foods for four years, before becoming non-executive chairman for a further five years.

‘Talented and dedicated’

Beever said: “It has been a privilege to have served as chairman of Premier Foods for five years, and to have worked with such a talented and dedicated executive team.

“I wish Keith, the board, and the company every success in the future, and believe Premier Foods is well-positioned for future growth.”

The new Premier Foods boss is currently non-executive director of EasyJet, and Samsonite International. Over the past five years, Hamill has served as non-executive directors for stockbroker TP ICAP, Max Property group and clothing manufacturing Bagir group.

Meanwhile, last month Premier Foods reported a 3.1% drop in sales in first-quarter trading, as desserts sales were hit by warm weather and changes to promotions.
