Wraps recalled over potentially fatal bacteria

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) reported the company had not demonstrated satisfactory manufacturing controls to prevent the growth and toxin production of Clostridium botulin​.

Botulinum toxin can cause a serious form of food poisoning called botulism, which in some cases can be fatal.

Chicken, bacon and mayo wraps and chicken tikka wraps with the use by date of 22/07/2016 were recalled. The wraps were sold in B&M convenience stores.

Lytham Foods advised consumers who had bought the products not to eat them and return them to the store from which they bought.

Retailers Asda and Lidl have also had to recall food products in the past month.

Undeclared allergens ​

Asda recalled its two syrup sponge puddings after the discovery of undeclared allergens in the product.

The ingredients list did not mention milk correctly as an allergen, making it a possible risk for consumers with an allergy or intolerance to it.

Asda two syrup sponge puddings, with a weight of 220g and best before dates of March 16 2017 and March 31 2017 were affected.

Customers with intolerance to milk were advised to return the product to their nearest Asda store for a full refund.

Lidl has also recalled products for undeclared allergens this month.

Not mentioned in English​

Sondey salted rice cakes were found to contain sesame as an ingredient, which was not mentioned in English on the label.

The recall applied to rice cakes with a best before date of June 14 2016.

The salted rice cakes are the eighth product to be recalled by the discount retailer since the beginning of this year due to allergens not being declared in English in the packaging.
