Vegetable and salad producer Troy Foods is to launch its own range of mayonnaise, following a £200,000 investment into production capacity.

Its m:a:y:o range of mayonnaise will come in everyday, premium and free-range varieties and will be available in 5l and 10l packs.

James Kempley, general manager at Troy Foods, said: “Having established a highly efficient, high care mayonnaise production facility to provide dressings for our range of salads, there was growing demand from customers for us to offer our mayonnaise as a product in its own right.

“In nationwide taste tastes, our m:a:y:o brand fared extremely well against the established market leaders and we believe consumers will appreciate its more competitive price, while still enjoying a premium product.”

‘Competitive price’

M:a:y:o’s launch followed Troy Foods’s £2M investment in a new distribution hub in West Yorkshire in June last year, which created 20 jobs.

The new 3,530m2 distribution centre provided ambient and chilled storage of raw materials, increasing capacity at the processing facilities and helped to expand production.

The company was also awarded the Sword of Honour by the British Safety Council last month (December 8), for its commitment to health and safety management standards.

Leeds-based Troy Foods employs 600 staff across three sites. It supplies a range of prepared vegetables for ready meals and retail packs in supermarkets across the country. It processes about 800t of vegetables a week at its facility in Royds Farm Road, Leeds.

Value added lines

Recently it moved into processing value added lines – such as dressed salads – including coleslaw, potato salads, pasta salads and dips. It also makes mayonnaise and dressings for retailers and the foodservice industry.
