Sausage manufacturer Heck planned to create 50 jobs, after announcing plans to open a £3.5M factory by the end of April.

The producer is looking to create roles across production, purchasing, human resources and new product development at the new facility in North Yorkshire.

Co-founder Andrew Keeble said: “We look for people with confidence – people who have personality and a can-do attitude.

“Of course there are specialist roles within the business but we’re very open to the idea of people changing career paths. That’s what’s brilliant about Heck — there are no job titles and there’s no glass ceiling.”

The new 1,985m2 factory will increase capacity for the sausage maker and help expand its product range.

‘Room for expansion’

A spokeswoman told FoodManufacture.co.uk: “We currently only have space for two production lines and the new factory will cater for four or five, plus room for expansion.”

The expansion will help boost production for the UK market. However, the company had no plans to export its products because, “shelf life is a limiting factor as everything we produce is fresh”.

Heck was founded in 2013 by Andrew and his wife Debbie and their three children. It currently employs 70 people across a number of roles, with and average age of 25.

The company forecast a £18M turnover for this year, with sales reaching £11.2M last year. The volume of sales grew 170.12% in the past three years.

Fastest growing food company

Heck was ranked the UK’s fastest food company and Yorkshire’s fastest growing company in the Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100 report in December.

Marketing and events planner Jack Tate said: “Anybody can make a good fit but it’s great if you are forward-thinking, fun, spontaneous, willing and self-driven.  We’re very much all in it together.”
