IFST has elected David Gregory as its new president

The Institute of Food Science & Technology (IFST) has elected David Gregory as its new president, succeeding former president Maureen Edmonson.

Gregory is chairman of food safety consultancy Acoura and has held a number of roles in the food and drink industry.

He was invested as IFST president during the organisation’s annual general meeting on March 14.

He served as director of technology for Marks & Spencer for 25 years, as well as acting as non-executive director for poultry giant 2 Sisters Food Group and the British Retail Consortium.

Gregory was chairman of Red Tractor Assurance from 2009 to 2015 and is a trustee for the British Nutrition Foundation.

‘Voice of the food profession’

Commenting on his appointment, Gregory said: “I am delighted and honoured to be elected president of the IFST. The Institute is the voice of the food profession and provides the resources for our members to develop their professional careers in this exciting industry.

“I’m looking forward to working with the committed volunteers, staff and the whole IFST membership to further develop this important organisation.”

Gregory’s appointed comes ahead of the IFST’s spring conference next month. The conference is to focus on the technological advances helping food and drink producers deliver safe and nutritious for to consumers.

Meanwhile, convenience food producer Greencore has appointed former US ambassador to Ireland Kevin O’Malley as a non-executive director.
