FSA restructures microbiology committee
The ACMSF provides the FSA with independent advice on the microbiological safety of food.
Leading the appointments is Professor Peter McClure, microbiology department manager for Europe at Mondelez International.
McClure is a food safety expert with extensive knowledge and expertise in microbiological food safety and spoilage, the FSA claimed.
Joining him on the committee is University of Cambridge lecturer Dr Dan Tucker.
Tucker is senior lecturer in veterinary public health/pig medicine at the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Cambridge. He is also a fellow and director of studies in medicine and veterinary sciences at Pembroke College, Cambridge.
Political activity
Both were appointed on April 1 2014 and will hold their positions until March 31 2018. Neither has carried out political activity in the past five years nor currently holds any other ministerial appointments.
The FSA also reappointed Professor David McDowell, David Nuttall and Rosie Glazebrook to the committee.
Meanwhile, the Food Manufacture Group will be staging a free one-day food safety conference - ‘Safe and legal food in a changing world' – on October 15 at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire.
The day will be divided into four sessions: Tomorrow's food safety risks; Managing the supply chain; Keeping food safe; and Novel processes and packaging.
