Reduce bruises on apple packs

01-May-2012

Nobody wants to eat a bruised apple, so the key to success for a tray-less apple pack is to handle them with the utmost care and that's a challenging task on a flow wrapping machine.

Redpack has developed a novel apple infeed and transfer method, which it says is the key to success for 'soft packaging' as it prevents apple damage and bruising. Another advantage is that the apples can be positioned in 'soldier packs' of four, six, eight or 10 apples without infeed change parts, so collation to collation changes are fast.

Speeds of 65 packs a minute can be achieved on the six-pack, which is a significant increase on previous packaging methods.
