Expect to see lighter, stronger materials in future with a greater proportion of recycled content. That is the message from plastics packaging supplier Sharp Interpack.
Its new SPE range of fresh fruit punnets is said to be up to 30% lighter than comparable packs on the market. But the ribbed design means they also have nearly twice the load-bearing strength of Sharp's existing range. The company says it has invested £2M in equipment to produce the packs.
Alongside the 23g strawberry punnet, a full 'family' of packs will be available from this month. The punnets contain up to 60% post-consumer recycled polyethylene terephthalate.
