One way to avoid product recall

31-Jul-2012

A new quality system checks seal seams during the packaging process to avoid product recalls.

The MVS seal seam scanner from Multivac Marking & Inspection provides immediate inspection of the seal seams, which have to be sufficiently secure and free of foreign bodies for food safety. A secure seal seam protects the food against loss of nutrients and aroma and avoids rapid spoilage.

The system scans the seal seams in the thermoforming packaging machine.

"The film, and therefore also the seal seam, is fed and held precisely in the packaging machine," said Dr Hendrik Frank, Multivac's technical manager. "The line scan camera can even focus reliably on seal seams in flexible film or other pliable materials." However, at least one of the two films must be transparent.

Inspection is fully automatic, capturing 100% of all packs and is performed without any contact, which means that it is wear-free.
