Consumer awareness of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification is growing, says the charity, largely as a result of its increased visibility on supermarket food and drink products. And that awareness, together with growing brand owner engagement with sustainability issues, is likely to lead to still greater interest in certification in the sector.
Deputy director of the FSC in the UK Rosie Teasdale underlined the importance of the scheme: "Once you get into mainstream packaging and household products, that's probably when consumer awareness starts to increase."
Research conducted this year shows 36% of consumers overall recognising the FSC logo, compared with 24% last year.
