A Scottish shortbread manufacturer is among those benefiting from the flexibility and reliability of electronic horizontal form-fill-seal technology.
Dean's of Huntly acquired a Carrera 500PC flow-wrapper from Ilapak some 18 months ago. It already had a Carrera 1000PC and a 2000PC, both of which are equipped with automated in-feeds.
"When we were feeding manually, the result could be a little haphazard," said operations director Les McArthur. "Now it is far more consistent."
Of the 500PC, he said: "We bought it to form our twin-biscuit catering packs, but we needed a machine that would cope with greater throughput if necessary, and had the flexibility to go up to a mid-size range."
