Soft drinks processor Silver Spring has broken into the squash market and is planning to relaunch its flagship Perfectly Clear flavoured water brand.
Operations director David Hanlon said: "We are moving into mainstream squash manufacturing, which will give us a base in the four main soft drinks areas: carbonates, spring water, flavoured water and squash. We will launch into squash from next month with six variants - everything from classic orange squash to high-juice."
The company aims to take squash into two-litre format for mid-priced and value ranges and one-litre format for premium high juices, containing 50% fruit juice.
Flavours would include: orange; blackcurrant; tropical; and apple and blackcurrant. Products have just been launched into distribution. The initial push will be for retailers' own labels, which make up 70% of Silver Spring's business.
Hanlon added that the relaunch of Perfectly Clear would entail redesigning bottles and labels, with the aim of repositioning the brand next year. The company also wanted to increase production of niche products for children and health-conscious adults. "The future lies in more niche, value-added products."
