Puff pastry pies show promise

26-Nov-2007

As the weather starts to get colder, the latest offerings from speciality food distributor Southover Food Company should help to warm consumers up.

The Sussex-based company is the exclusive distributor of two brand new flavours of individually-packed Higgidy pies.

Lemon Chicken Pie with Bacon, Lentils & Spinach is made with handmade puff pastry. Animal lovers will be pleased to discover the pie is filled with the Royal Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals farm-assured Freedom Food British chicken and bacon.

Meanwhile, the company's Spinach, Feta & Toasted Pine Nut Pie is suitable for vegetarians. It uses seeded pastry filled with fresh spinach, béchamel and feta, topped with red peppers, pine nuts and more feta.

The products are sold four to a case with an average baked weight from 270g each.

Higgidy has a number of serving suggestions for the pies, including accompanying them with oven roasted vine tomatoes. It has also come up with its coleslaw recipe, which includes English mustard, a Granny Smith apple and yoghurt.
