Pop your patty in the toaster

06-Sep-2010

Next month a breaded meat patty that can go from frozen to ready in minutes will be launched on the UK market.

Toast Me! is a new product from Tillman's the brand name of the TönniesFleisch consortium that is loosely based on the Wiener schnitzel and is already one of the leading snacks sold in Germany.

The meaty snack will be available in the frozen food section of a number of national supermarket chains from October. It comes in two varieties: chicken, and bacon and scrambled egg. A vegetable option is scheduled for launch in January 2011.

The patty is produced via a patent-protected 16-step manufacturing technique, which TönniesFleisch was not prepared to divulge.

To produce the first frozen meat snack product designed for the toaster, Tillman's had to overcome a number of technical problems. These include how to prevent: the patty sticking to the toaster; oil dripping out; and the dreaded 'pop-tart' effect. This happens when the centre heats more quickly than the exterior during the cooking process, which could lead to a burnt tongue for the biter.
