A range of omega-3 sauces for children have been launched by healthyandessential.com, an online retailer specialising in healthy foods and supplements for the whole family, and select health food shops.

Ideal Omega Taste includes products that offer doses of omega-3 for vegans and vegetarians. The line-up consists of mango peach and lemon zest (made from fish oil); strawberry and banana (made from flax, for vegetarians); and pomegranate and blueberry flavours (made from flax, borage and algal oil, for vegans).

"Many people dislike the taste of fish or find capsules too difficult to swallow," explained healthyandessential.com's founder Ramsay McLellan, "so for these people, the answer is Taste."

He said the 473ml sauces could be mixed with smoothies, yoghurt or porridge or could be eaten on their own. "When eaten from the freezer, it tastes like a sorbet or a Slush Puppie. It's a real product innovation and we hope we will see more people getting the omega-3 they need through Taste.

"Our business is good health, and we see Taste as a 'superfood' that can help maintain a healthy lifestyle. Mass food processing and modern diets mean that most people lack omega-3, and need to up their intake. Ideal Omega Taste is also a great way for vegans and vegetarians to get omega-3 into their diet."
