A new safety system involving pagers has been launched to help alert the hard of hearing in the case of a fire.
DefCall, from Call Systems Technology (CST), links directly to the site's own fire alarm and is compatible with most systems on the market.
When an alarm sounds, DefCall automatically sends a text message and strong vibration alert to pagers worn by hard of hearing staff. Depending on the sophistication of the fire alarm, it can also warn where the fire is.
"For many large organisations, such as factories, alerting hard of hearing employees in the case of fire is a major headache," says CST md Peter Hutchinson. "DefCall is highly effective and meets British Standards Institution recommendations and is economically priced."
The self-testing system includes a 72-hour battery back up pack in case of power failure.
