The fabric of air ducting

07-Feb-2005

Moisture-reducing ducts

Companies looking to install air ducts in their plants should consider fabric ducting over conventional metal ductwork and grilles, says Air Diffusion Technology.

According to the company, fabric ducting is not only cheaper than its metal equivalent but eliminates the draughty conditions created by the velocity at which cold air moves around a room. Not only does this make for an uncomfortable workplace, it can also dry out products as it absorbs moisture.

Using fabric ducting, which 'leaks' refrigerated air from every square millimetre of its surface, air passes more gently at a much lower velocity, reducing such problems. Air released from the fabric duct will usually reach the occupied zone at less than 0.3m/s compared with a typical speed of 3m/s from a room cooler or 0.75 m/s from a ceiling grille.

Additional benefits of fabric ducting are that it does not suffer from condensation and does not support the growth of bacteria or fungi.
