Sweet pack coding errors consigned to the waste bin

13-May-2005

Monkhill Confectionery, a division of Cadbury Trebor Bassett, has purchased a package coding management system for the accurate control of on-pack coding at its two sites.

The Claricom Clarinet package controls coding equipment across the corporate wide area network (WAN) between both sites at Pontefract and York.

The solution, which can be deployed across multiple brands of coders, will help the company minimise costly coding errors. It eliminates day-to-day potential errors in critical coding information -- such as 'use by' date -- by removing manual set-up of thermal transfer coders. All data is controlled centrally using Clarisoft Message Design Software, and transmitted to packaging lines via the Clarinet ethernet.

It also enables pack line performance and real-time status of all coders to be viewed across the WAN for instant and accurate diagnosis.

"Clarinet can integrate our Markem SmartDate coders and newer ICE Zodiac thermal transfer coders into a common package coding management system," says Monkhill engineering manager Gerry McDonough. "The coder-independent software allows us to also integrate barcode case coding and barcode packaging validation, and extends flexibility of choice to future purchasing decisions."
