New technique eliminates need for manual labelling

07-Feb-2005

DataLase from Sherwood Technology is a virtual labelling technique that does away with the need for adhesive labels on packaging.

Barcodes, two-dimensional codes, logos, graphics, etc, can be imaged by a low-power carbon dioxide laser directly on to any surface, thereby eliminating the time-consuming process of printing and applying labels.

The virtual label becomes an integral part of the packaging and, unlike conventional labels, it will not peel off. Companies in food and beverages are likely to benefit from this technology, says Sherwood.
