Marks & Spencer (M&S) is to set out its view of lean and green food and drink manufacturing and evaluation processes in a free, one-hour webinar at 11am on Tuesday April 26.

The online seminar will provide key insights on how the premium food and drink retailer has pioneered lean and green manufacturing techniques and audit processes with its suppliers.

The retailer’s head of responsible sourcing and packaging and Plan A, Louise Nicholls will set out how Marks & Spencer began the journey towards sourcing food and drink products from suppliers that meet lean, green and ethical manufacturing criteria.

Nicholls will also offer insight into the retailer’s leading evaluation processes, which accorded suppliers an accreditation based on their achievement against measured objectives.

‘M&S has stringent entry requirements’

“M&S has stringent entry requirements to business with us,” Nicholls is expected to tell the webinar audience on Tuesday. “Those included: integrity audits, food safety audits, ethical audits and specific audits for the farming sector.”

A supplier’s achievement would lead to it being accredited with a Provisional, Bronze, Silver and Gold status.

Speaking to FoodManufacture.co.uk ahead of the webinar, Nicholls said: “We wanted to prove to suppliers we would recognise and reward those facilities with leading standards.”
