Magician aims to make food waste vanish
Magician Elliot Bibby wowed shoppers in an Edinburgh branch of Asda with food waste themed magic tricks as part of the government initiative Greener Scotland.
In the video (below) Bibby transforms a £10 banknote into a paper message claiming the average household wastes £470 worth of food a year. Watch the video to see how Bibby used fire and lemons to encourage shoppers to “go greener”.
Bibby told FoodManufacture.co.uk: “I’m all for promoting the environment and saving food waste. Magic is what I do for a job. I learned a lot about food waste during the filming and was able to use magic to promote a good cause.
“Some people were more amazed by the savings they could make than the magic, which was quite interesting. I think they will think about [how much food they waste] more now.”
Two thirds of food waste thrown away could be used, Greener Scotland claimed.
Greener Scotland encouraged people to follow three tips to reduce their food waste.
They were to shop, cook and store more efficiently; recycle what they can’t eat and learn about the impact wasting food has on energy, fuel and water.
