A gas flushing, semi-automatic, hand-turned, rotary table heat-sealing machine has been installed by Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses at its facility in Preston, Lancashire. It is being used to seal pots of cheese which are supplied to Asda.

The PA182 from Packaging Automation was specified after a visit by Butlers' engineering manager to view the equipment. Sealing trials were undertaken during which a number of gases and atmospheres were tested for suitability.

The installation has been so successful that Butlers has specified additional tooling so that the machine can seal a new cheese to meet an order from Marks & Spencer.
