The Food and Drink Federation’s boss Ian Wright has faced three key challenges since taking on the role in the spring.

Understanding the interests and needs of food and drink manufacturers and making sure the FDF’s actions are relevant as a result have been the biggest challenges Wright has faced, he told us in the exclusive video for FoodManufacture.co.uk.

Watch the video to see Wright discuss these challenges candidly.

Wright said that despite similarities between alcoholic beverage industry and food and drink manufacturing, he had had to learn about the many differences.

‘Not the same’

“I come from a related industry to food and drink in beverage alcohol but it is not the same”, he said.

“So you have to understand although it looks the same it is different.”

Before joining the FDF, Wright was corporate relations director at drinks giant Diageo for 14 years.

He said he had been forced to take on the role of ‘Bond villain’ and defend the industry passionately since joining the FDF.

Meanwhile, watch the first part of our series of video interviews with Wright in which he discussed his top ambitions for the year ahead.

Wright will also feature as the Big Interview subject in January’s edition of Food Manufacture magazine.
