Dewlay cheese firm embarks on wind turbine project

04-Jun-2010

Work has begun to erect a wind turbine at a Dewlay's Lancashire cheese-producing site, making it the first UK cheese maker to be powered by renewable energy, claimed the manufacturer.

Operations director, Nick Kenyon said the turbine will be working by October 2010. It will be erected on the factory's 18-acre, green-field site behind Dewlay's cheese manufacturing and packaging facility.

"We are confident that the wind turbine will reduce our own emissions by 2,260t a year," said Kenyon. "As a business, we are fully committed to our environmental objectives and are excited to be at the forefront of this technology."
