Manchester-based dessert and speciality food manufacturer Destiny Foods has completed its 30,000m2 expansion at its site, boosting its product range by 20%.

The new premises house a 1,700 pallet cold store and office suite, enabling Destiny Foods to introduce a range of new product lines, including ‘made without gluten,’ artisan breads and savoury products.

No initial jobs have been created at the site, although further job opportunities could be created in the future.

Expanding the premises has given Destiny Foods the capacity to increase its product portfolio and add lines that provide it a “real point of difference”, said md Richard Watts.

Diversify range

“A rising number of consumers require made without gluten products and we want them to enjoy their favourite desserts without compromising on taste and quality,” he said.

“Incorporating new bread and savoury ranges also allows us to diversify our offering and meet the varied needs of our customers.

“The way our business has expanded in recent years is a real achievement and I’m incredibly proud of my team.”

Destiny Foods has hired 30 new employees over the past three years and invested £2M in new equipment over the past two years.

New fleet

Included in the investment was a new fleet of multi-temperature vehicles and a 27t multi-temperature truck.

The business achieved a turnover of £13M in 2015 and works with over 1,370 national clients across international hotel groups, national restaurant chains, stadia, breweries, travel and independent catering sectors. Destiny Foods currently employs 155 people.

Councillor for Gorton North John Hughes said: “It’s brilliant to see a local business expanding and supporting the local economy.

“A substantial proportion of Destiny Foods’ employees are local people and it is evident that the team has a great working relationship. I wish them every success as they continue to grow their business across the UK.”
