The Turbulizer, from Hosokawa Micron, is said to offer effective layer coating, solids-solids mixing, and the dispersal of liquids on solids for a range of products.

Whether for coating base powder particles for taste masking, improvement of flow characteristics, protection of core particles, controlled release effect, or controlled dissolving time, the Turbilizer is said to suit most process requirements.

Equipped with a horizontal paddle mixer with adjustable paddles, it can provide a fine coating of a chemical or mineral with a 0.5% to 3% melt where the primary particle size is in the range of a few microns.

The base product and the powder melt are gravimetrically fed at room temperature to the product inlet. Powders are blended into a homogeneous mixture and the jacketed vessel heats the powdery melt to just above its melting temperature. Jacket temperatures of up to 320°C can be achieved. Product residence time inside the unit is five seconds during which the base product is coated with the melt. Discharge temperatures are, typically, 65°C.
