Carlisle scoops a second ice cream contract at Mackie's

29-May-2006

Dairy specialist Carlisle Process Systems has won the contract to install a new production line, worth more than £350,000, at leading luxury Scottish ice cream maker Mackie's.

The Aberdeenshire producer, which employs 65 staff and turns over £14M a year, has become the leading branded premium ice cream supplier in Scotland and is forecast to double sales in the next three years, boosted by a growing supermarket own-label business both sides of the border.

The firm's new, semi-automatic mixing system, pasteuriser and chilling plant will raise output at the factory from a current maximum of 2,000 litres to 5,000l/h. The tubbed ice cream range includes five core flavours - Traditional, Strawberry and Cream, Caramel Choc Mint, Honeycomb Harvest and Absolutely Chocolate - plus one Organic variant.

Carlisle incorporated a number of novel features for Mackie's process, including automatic top filling of the ice cream ageing tanks and a mobile unit for small flavour additions.

Carlisle, a family owned firm until 2001, previously designed, built and installed Mackie's milk chilling, routing system and storage tanks.
