Advice for safer compressed air use is launched by BCGA

Food and drink firms can now get access to free compressed air advice

Guidance on the safe use of compressed air in food and drink manufacture is now freely available from the British Compressed Gases Association (BCGA).

The UK membership body has made its extensive catalogue of information available for free download under the ‘publications’ tab on its website.

Previously, a charge was made to access much of the guidance, which includes codes of practice, guidance notes, technical reports and technical information sheets. Leaflets, safety alerts and industry information can also be found in this area of the website.

The move is part of a drive by the BCGA to increase awareness of compressed gases and share industry best practice.

“The compressed gases sector is the UK’s ‘invisible industry,’ with food and drink gases, as well as industrial and medical gases, playing a critical role in many aspects of life, underpinning a safe, successful and healthy nation,” said BCGA chief executive Doug Thornton.

“Members of BCGA operate in a highly-regulated industry and work together on technical, safety, health and environmental issues to achieve high standards of integrity and environmental care, both within their own and customers’ working environments.

“As a result of this approach, over the years we’ve built up a wide-range of information that is useful to those with responsibility for food and drink environments and is regularly updated.”
