More non-GM soya lecithin comes to Europe from Asia
One of South East Asia's largest soy producers, Adani Wilmar, can now offer the European food industry 30Mt a day of non-genetically modified (non-GM) soya lecithin, following certification by Cert ID Europe. Three of the company's five plants are now Cert ID non-GM, kosher- and halal-certified, following a large investment by Adani Wilmar to provide international quality, non-GM soya lecithin.

Soya lecithin is the most widely used emulsifier in food production, historically sourced from North America and, more recently, Brazil. However, the increase in GM soy from these countries has meant that big European food companies have looked to India for supplies.

Adani Wilmar has a huge soy production capacity of up to 6,000t a day (crushing) and refining capacity of up to 5,000t a day.

Richard Werran, md of Cert ID Europe, said: "Adani Wilmar has risen to the challenge of meeting demand for quality [non-GM] soya lecithin from Europe. by investing in production and certification to meet quality requirements."
