Muntons, which supplies malt and malted ingredients, has witnessed steady growth in demand from all sectors, including processed foods, breads and the home-brew market. As a result, the company has increased production capacity by more than 3,000t.
"Consumers are looking to reduce salt, sugar and E-numbers, which means more manufacturers are using [malt] to increase taste or as a sweetener, as it is a long-string sugar that is not as detrimental to teeth," said Andy Janes, Muntons' marketing manager.
