Unlike fish oil, krill oil largely maintains its natural nutrient profile and sensitivity to heat, light and oxidation of the biomass from which it was extracted. Elements such as astaxanthin and omega-3 bound phospholipids are extremely sensitive and can only be exposed to relatively mild extraction procedures. Consequently, a careful purification process must take place to ensure the efficacy and safety of the krill oil through processing and during its shelf-life.
