Ulrick & Short is seeking to expand into new food sectors, supported by plans to launch a think tank focusing on ingredients innovation.
The UK-based functional ingredients manufacturer and supplier said it hoped this specialist approach to product innovation, which will involve outside partners, would allow it to accelerate new product development.
The new group will explore products that would complement its existing range of clean label starches, fat replacers, thickeners and bakery glazes. It would also identify and research ways of breaking into these potential markets.
"As the business continues to rapidly grow, it is imperative that Ulrick & Short continues to strengthen its innovation activity, while allowing us to maintain a clear focus on research and development for current customer-specific projects," said Ulrick & Short director Adrian Short.
"Combining process functionality with a health twist is Ulrick & Short's next goal and we already have new products in the pipeline."
