Health Ingredients Europe show preview

Related tags Nutrition

Creating ingredients of nutritional value to consumers has been a key food innovation driver in recent years, and the upcoming Health Ingredients Europe (HiE) and Natural Ingredients (Ni) shows will put healthy reformulation firmly centre stage.

Taking place at Messe Frankfurt from November 29 to December 1, organisers claim this year’s event is a “unique showcase for the future of nutrition”. And, to emphasise this, it will be part of a week-long city-wide festival dedicated to natural and healthy food ingredients.

The Health & Nutrition Week festival is to feature a series of activities, including meetings, lectures and panel discussions.

It kicks off on November 28 with two day-long conferences running concurrently – The Future of Nutrition, from overall show organiser UBM; and Innovation and Opportunity in Sports Nutrition, put together by Food Manufacture’s sister publication NutraIngredients.com.

‘Highlight in the calendar’

“Health & Nutrition Week will be a real highlight in the calendar of all health and nutrition professionals worldwide,” claims Richard Joyce, brand director for HiE and Ni.

“Inspiration, information and networking outside of the normal event format – this festival will be a unique display for nutrition.”

The three-day HiE & Hi shows will play host to seminars, networking events and zones showcasing the latest ingredients innovation.

A New Product Zone will be a platform for all the latest products and packaging innovations from some of the 450-plus exhibitors. Highlights include a new ‘next-generation’ infant reformulation product from FrieslandCampina Domo, and a new potato protein isolate from Avebe.

Start-up innovations

Visitors to the show can also view some of the most exciting innovations coming from small start-ups as part of the Start-up Innovation Challenge, which takes place at the Industry Innovation Theatre on November 29.

Over at the Industry Insights Theatre, there will be a session on the top 10 trends for 2017 by Innova Market Insights, and an update on the regulatory status of EU food health claims, from EAS Strategies.

The Global Seminar Theatre, meanwhile, will include a talk on evidence based probiotics from Winclove Probiotics and a session on the ‘flexitarian’ effect from theatre sponsor Mintel.

Other highlights include a women’s networking breakfast, and an ‘ingredients in action’ tasting bar, hosted by Innova. And, of course, there are the exhibitor stands.

Frankfurt: far more than a financial centre

Many know Frankfurt as a financial powerhouse and recognise it for its Manhattan-style skyline, but those familiar to the city claim it has much more to offer.

In among the skyscrapers lies a city of character and variety, from its cosy pubs and half-timbered buildings in the medieval old town, to its parks, gardens and riverside walkways.

Sightseeing highlights include the Römer, recognised as one of the oldest and most charming town halls in the world.

In close proximity is St Paul’s Church, the original site of the first all-German parliament and where the democratic constitution of Germany was formed.

The Imperial Cathedral, a former coronation site of German emperors, is also said to be well worth a visit. When it comes the number of museums, Frankfurt is second only to Berlin in Germany.

On the south bank of the river, nine museums are lined up in a row. These include the Städel Art Institute, and the German Film Museum.

Another landmark is Goethe House, the former home of Frankfurt’s most famous son, poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
