Tea extracts with a high polyphenol and catechin content were unveiled at Drinktec, which took place in Munich last week (September 11–15).

Exclusively made from green tea leaves, Sunphenon tea extracts are claimed to offer antioxidant, antimicrobial, odour-suppressing and thermogenic effects.

Available in powder form, the ingredient dissolves completely in water – offering numerous application possibilities, maker Taiyo claimed.

Visitors to the Taiyo stand were able to try an instant tea based on the raw extracts.

Rosehip fruits and leaves

In addition to green tea leaves, the beverage contained rosehip fruits and leaves from the mulberry tree or the Qingmao tea bush (a subspecies of Camellia sinensis).

Available in natural and flavoured options, they are also highly soluble in cold water, meaning they are also perfect for iced tea, Taiyo said.

The company also used Drinktec to showcase “alternative” energy drinks based on matcha, and a green tea that included the antioxidant coenzyme Q10.
