Developers of pork-based products could get financial help for projects that promote the sale of pork through a grant scheme run by the British Pig Executive (BPEX).
The BPEX scheme is intended to support projects that enable pig producers and processors, foodservice companies and retailers to improve the existing quality of pork products and the efficiency of the supply chain.
The scheme applies to those companies looking to add value to pork-based products. The Meat and Livestock Commission (MLC) also hopes it will encourage those companies looking to register pork products under the European Union rules on Protected Designations of Origin (PDO), Protected Geographical Indications (PGI) and Certificates of Specific Character (CSC).
The money comes from the producer-funded promotional levy and while it is intended that the primary beneficiaries of the projects are producers, it is anticipated that all parties in the supply chain will benefit.
The deadline for entries is January 22 and the recipients of awards will be announced on March 18.
