Food helps Symrise bear economic hit

01-Sep-2011

Growth in flavour and nutrition sales at Symrise offset raw material costs and currency effects in the first half of 2011, the firm claimed.

The global flavours, fragrances, nutrition and consumer care group reported particularly high demand for its beverage and new consumer health applications.

The Flavour & Nutrition division in Europe, Africa and the Middle East saw 8% sales growth, the largest of any division. The division's global sales rose 4% to E402.3M.

"Whereas the flavour business continued to grow, demand for fragrances declined," said Symrise chief executive Dr Heinz-Jürgen Bertram.

Group pre-tax profit fell 8.6% to E162.5M, while sales grew by 3% to E811.8M.
