Food and drink manufacturers are now able to source a comprehensive range of sugar reduction additives from a single ingredients firm, after its leading range was extended to include new variants.

The Navia line of food additives encompasses a variety of natural botanical extracts, including a natural colouring tomato extract, a natural preservative rosemary extract and natural sweeteners, such as a stevia extract.

Taste, texture and stability

Together, the range fulfilled the taste, texture and stability requirements of tasty and healthy products, said Swedish maker Bayn Europe.

Reducing sugar means change, both technically and commercially, and there was no single ingredient that can replace sugar in processed food, said Lucy Dahlgren, md at Bayn Europe.

“Today, food producers purchase ingredients from different distributors or manufacturers – it is time-consuming and costly,” she said.

“We launched Navia to give more options to our customers.”

Sugar and calorie reduction range

The Navia launch followed the positive reaction to the Eureba sugar and calorie reduction range, Bayn added.

Meanwhile, Bayn Europe and Barentz have mutually agreed to terminate their exclusive European stevia distribution contract.

“We are now discussing with strategic partners that are focused on bringing market value in a holistic and systematic manner for healthy sugar reduction,” said Dahlgren.
