Social media for food safety

02-Jul-2012

Do you think all food products in UK supermarkets should have a web, Twitter and Facebook page on which you can report food safety incidents to a central Food Standards Agency database?

Totally random investigation process

At least one major retailer has a Twitter complaints route and it just generates spurious issues.

They never give the batch code or date coding information so you've got a totally random complaint investigation process.

If you had a system where they had to upload a scan of the receipt or barcode of the product and there was traceability information supplied then I could see the point, but you're still wide open to spurious or malicious complaints.
