Linx Printing Technologies has installed a Linx 30W scribing laser coder at tea producer Twinings to provide legible code on black cardboard cartons.
The Twinings Premier Range has recently been relaunched in distinctive dark packaging. But Twinings realised that its existing method of using a continuous ink-jet printer to print code on to the packaging was unsuitable. Laser coding was the solution because it etches the black surface of the carton to create a clear, high-quality scribed code.
Reliability and precision were paramount, and Twinings recognised that the Linx Laser could provide the necessary quality. Twinings already had a mask laser coder, but it lacked efficiency with the need to change masks regularly affecting productivity. In contrast, the Linx scribing laser system delivers a precise code simply and conveniently.
At Twinings, the coder applies a two-line code comprising a 'best before' date along with a traceability code that gives details of the time and batch of manufacture. At its maximum capacity, the line produces 90 boxes per minute.
