Last month during the Fresh Produce trade show in Berlin, Baltimore Innovations introduced the Fresh-R-Pax ‘mini-container’, which features absorbent technology to improve the quality and extend the shelf-life of fresh cut fruit, to the European market.

Fresh-R-Pax, developed by US firm Maxwell Chase Technologies, absorbs the excess juice/liquid fresh cut fruit releases and ensures its ripeness and sweetness. Baltimore Innovations is the European distributor of Fresh-R-Pax.

The new 70g and 110g ‘mini-containers’ are targeted specifically at kids’ snacks, school lunches and retail/convenience stores. The packs are easy to open, tamper evident, and are said to be ideal for packing fresh-cut pineapple and melon.

“Customers have been asking us to develop single-serve packaging which incorporates the extended shelf-life our technology offers fresh cut fruits,” says Matthew Valentine, Baltimore’s md. “They’ve asked us to keep the solution cost effective and by sealing a Fresh-R-Pax pad into the base of a square tray/punnet we’re happy the new ‘mini-containers’ tick all three boxes.”
