Nestlé has confirmed that 57 jobs are to go at its Cuddington, Norwich factory which produces yoghurt brands such as Ski, Munch Bunch and Sveltesse.
It warned of the job cuts last November. Most redundancies will be voluntary. Nestlé plans to modernise the factory.
Ingredients manufacturer Macphie is to invest £2.5m at its base at Glenbervie, Aberdeenshire, including on two Tetra Pak A3/Flex filling machines and a 25% increase in warehousing.
Macphie supplies glazes, cream alternatives and sauces for bakers and soups and stuffings for caterers. It said the investment would enable a move into new markets in the UK and abroad. It increased pre-tax profit in the year ended March 2004 by 5.7% to £3.1m and turnover by 7.7% to £37.1m, despite higher raw materials costs.
