Farmers in England are making up for lost agricultural income by diversifying into profitable non-farming enterprises.

According to latest figures from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, profits from farming in the UK dropped 5.4% to £3bn last year, but farmers' non-agricultural businesses produced profits of £300m on turnover which rose 29% on a year before to £550m.
