Out of a pickle

07-Feb-2005

Premier Foods has revealed that last October's fire at its Bury St Edmunds plant cost around £10m in lost sales.

The fire halted production of Branston Pickle and Loyd Grossman products and meant that the company's like-for-like grocery sales were "broadly flat" compared with a year before. Sales would otherwise have been up by over 1%, despite a slow Christmas, it said. It resumed some pickle production in November and started making sauces in December. It predicted output would be back to normal by the end of this month.
