Jobs are threatened at Mariner Foods after the seafood business entered administration on May 5, having been set up just three years ago.

Sarah Burge of Kingsbridge Corporate Solutions has been appointed as administrator of the company, which operated from Athenian Way on Great Grimsby Business Park in Humberside and has now ceased to trade.

In a statement commenting on Mariner Foods’s situation, Kingsbridge said: “The company opened in 2012 and invested heavily in its factory, equipment and facilities.

“In the last few months a loss of customers and a lack of supplies of key, strategic raw materials led to a reduced turnover leaving the business unsustainable.

‘Redundancies’

“The majority of the company’s staff have been offered employment with other local companies. However a small number of redundancies could not be avoided.”

Local press reports suggest just five staff have been made redundant as a result of the firm’s closure.

Kingsbridge said it was now seeking buyers for Mariner Foods’s assets and interested parties should contact it on 01472 344433.

Mariner Foods sourced much of its fish from the nearby Grimsby Fish Market and its predicament is a blow to local trade.
