Food sustainability project launched for kids

Dairy Crest has teamed up with registered charity Farming and Countryside Education (FACE) to launch FoodFACE - a competition to educate school children about the environmental, health and sustainability issues surrounding food.

Entrants will be asked to create: a three course menu using healthy, sustainable foods; a list of ingredients used; and a poster illustrating why the food is environmentally friendly and sustainable. The competition will run through the autumn term with the winner of the FoodFACE competition and their class receiving an all expenses paid trip to the Magdalen Project. This is an outdoor education scheme exploring food and sustainability, set on an organic farm in Chard, Somerset.

Marketing agency, Fountain, will be targeting schools in the west country through a direct mail campaign. Teachers will be sent information packs about the FoodFACE and encouraged to include the competition in their teaching plans upon returning from summer holiday.

“We’re proud of our involvement with FACE and this is part of our commitment to champion health, local and sustainable food,” said Greg Parsons, marketing controller, liquids at Country Life Organic Milk. “If successful, we will be looking at replicating this activity nationwide.”
